At the beginning of the year I set myself a goal that I would illustrate one fairy tale per month to make a calendar to hang over my desk for next year. So far I’m managing to keep up more or less. I thought I’d share the ones I have so far. 

January: Snow White

Apart from associating the Snow part of her name with January, I think that her waking up represents the start of a new beginning. 

Funny story. After I drew this picture I realized that the other illustrations I planned to use Were oriented vertically instead of landscape. 😫 So at some point I’m going to go back and redo this one. 

February: Beauty and the Beast

It seemed pretty obvious that a story that revolves around roses and true love breaking spells (while also being a variation on the love story between good ole Cupid himself and his beloved Psyche) should go with February.
This was the first one I drew that inspired this entire project.

March: The Frog Princess

So March I associate with St Patrick’s Day and the color green. So I chose a green frog, a golden ball, and a princess with red hair.

April: Cinderella

Despite the ripe pumpkin, I always think of Cinderella and fairies as being associated with spring. Maybe because it’s prom season, I’m not sure. 

May: Rapunzel

I actually got behind and haven’t drawn this one yet. Oops! But May makes me think of Mother’s Day, and at its core Rapunzel is a story about mothers and daughters.

June: The Little Mermaid

With June comes summer and beach season, so who better to showcase that than the princess from under the sea?



July: Peter Pan

While not strictly a fairy tale in the Grimm sense of the word, I drew this picture for my son’s nursery and thought that the adventure and freedom of Pan perfectly summed up July and summer vacation.

    1. I wasn’t planning to make it available to buy. Since I use so many pictures for references I’m not sure at what point I’d be stepping on the original photos toes. But I’m just planning to use a basic calendar template on my computer to print these out when I’m done. Feel free to like or save them if you want. 😊

  3. Your illustrations are incredible! I’m incredibly envious of writers who can draw, because they can always actualise their own visions in a way that someone removed from the story can’t: I love your work! 🙂

  4. Your artwork is wonderful! I’m an artist too but have done very little with colored pencil – it’s a medium I want to get more into. I admire your ability to create such full, vivid scenes.

    1. I’m glad you enjoy them. I always want to see characters in fully realized scenes than just the abstract backgrounds that are probably more correct in terms of composition. I have a love hate with colored pencils. They’re the easiest for me to draw in the fine details, but getting the color saturation I want is so much more time consuming than say with acrylics.

      Reading through your posts I’m really enjoying your sense of humor that you write with.
