Today marks the last day of my twenty-eighth year, and I can’t believe all the amazing achievements that were packed into the last twelve months. When your birthday is as close to New Years as mine, resolutions and birthday wishes sort of get lumped into one. I managed to accomplish more of last years’ goals than I expected, and I have you all to thank for most of that. All of your encouragement, interest, and advice kept me accountable, and for that I want to thank you.

The first of my big achievements is my fairy tale illustration series. I’m scratching away on the final one, and it should be finished before the end of the week. Each of those drawings helped me grow as an artist, and having a place to share them when they were finished definitely gave me a reason to stay on top of the project when it felt like I would never finish. If you have any goals for next year, I encourage you to find your people, the ones who share your ambitions and interests to push you to see your goal through too.

Then there was the big one, publishing Trial by Song. Even though I’d been working on the story for several years, last January was when I decided I needed to put up or shut up about trying to become an author. I started that journey by joining writer hashtags on twitter, starting this blog, and slowly gaining confidence from other people who were in my shoes now or who had been there before. I can’t stress how helpful it is to find other people who know what you’re going through. Not only can they guide you around common mistakes, but it gives you a chance to see that it can be done.

So now, with next year looming ahead, it’s time to start thinking about new goals. It’ll be my last year in my twenties, so I guess I’d better make it great!

So tell me about your journey. Did you meet or exceed any expectations you set for yourself last year? What do you hope to accomplish in 2018?
